Appearance: Rather indifferent to the idea of fashion or looks, Sam's appearance often takes a backseat to the other priorities in his life. If one's lucky enough to catch him at his camp at the Ministry of Magic, you might catch him freshly shaven and in a set of clean clothes devoid of any holes or scorch marks. Considering his job is to work around fairly deadly creatures, Sam prefers to dress in layers with a t-shirt under a flannel underneath a thick jacket made of leather or some other strong or thick material. Sturdy boots and sturdy pants. If he's caught in the middle of a problem he's trying to solve, you'd be lucky to catch him without random notes written over his hands, several pens in each of his pockets, and jam on his shirt from the quick breakfast he was in too much of a hurry to finish sitting down.
PB- Sam Worthington
Distinguishing Marks/Scars/Features: "Ah, which badge of honor would you like to see?" Luckily, his large scars are few and far in between as each one taught him a new lesson in handling dangerous creatures. The most noticeable scar is the one that runs along his left cheek near the corner of his mouth, and it serves as a reminder of just how amazing yet powerful nature can be. He has another scar along the right side of his ribcage and another running diagonally from his right shoulder blade. Considering the number of scars he's seen on others in his profession, he thinks he's made out pretty well so far.
Personality: Born and raised in the cradle of southern hospitality and the arms of two loving parents, Sam's a very down to earth and simple soul. A good meal, a problem solved, and a good beer make for a good day. Despite his moving away from the country he calls home, Sam has always kept his family close to heart and moves in accordance to a strong moral compass. He tends to be a little obsessive when it comes to his interests and passions. A scientist at heart and given his father's work ethic, he has trouble putting a project down until he's finished with it, and he can get quite cranky if ever there's something that stumps him or his friends make him put his work down. Though he might feel simple, he loves the thrill and adventure that comes with his job. He feels most comfortable when he can keep his hands busy and understand the sweetness of a day off after a long time of work.
Character Inspired Songs:
Likes: Dragons, comfort foods, projects, manners, rock music, adventure, traveling, mountains, hiking, camping, cooking (even if he isn't very good at it), a good pair of jeans, new work boots
Dislikes: Animal abuse, escargot, corrupt politicians, corrupt law enforcement, corporations, abusive men
Most Embarrassing Moment: A dragon lighting his ass on fire in the first week of his apprenticeship
Hobbies: Working with animals, fixing stuff and pulling stuff apart, researching, camping, hiking, teaching
History: Despite being the Carmichael's third son born into their wizarding family, Sam Carmichael's life was overwhelmingly plain and muggle in Savannah, Georgia. His earliest memories were of the various animals and horses on their ranch just outside of the city where he and his brothers would play and help their parents. While the rest of his siblings whined with disdain about work on the ranch when they got older, Sam actually found himself volunteering. As a result, he spent a large amount of quality time with his mother, whom never could get her only daughter or other boys to see the joy in working with animals or doing things "the old fashioned way." He never did know if it was just the American pride in them that forced them to lift themselves by their own bootstraps and abandon magic or something else, but magic was very seldom used in their household beyond the random outbursts or necessities.
By the time Sam reached the age to go to Ilvermorny, he was itching to learn more about all of the things his older brothers had. What fascinated him most, however, were the magical creatures lurking around the world that were much different from the chickens and horses he was used to. His brother, Ben, was more than happy to indulge in Sam's interest, often letting Sam read over his shoulder as he studied werewolves and pygmy puffs. Though it was a far cry from home, Ilvermorny proved to be an amazing adventure that led him to his current career. Care for Magical Creatures opened his eyes to a whole new world and the whole new set of problems that world faced. After seeing a dragon firsthand on a visit to Ben's work, Sam was hooked. He needed to know more about dragons, and he needed to know more about their situation. Unfortunately, Ben's apprenticeship didn't offer him much information, so he continued to learn and research on his own throughout his career at Ilvermorny.
Following school, Sam went through a rather..."bleeding heart liberal" phase when he faced the disillusionment of adulthood. Further study and schooling got him involved in various animal rights activist groups as he learned of the corruption and evil of the plaguing society's infrastructure. From "farming" to poaching, Sam was disgusted by the treatment and harm certain dragons suffered that threatened their population. Throughout his early years during his apprenticeship under a very loving and devoted professor and dragon-keeper, he moonlighted as a radical protestor, often throwing his bag and thick hide gloves on his bed to put on his black clothes. It wasn't too long until Sam climbed the ladder in his group, and he soon began to map out and lead these demonstrations around ministry buildings or dragon processing companies. Such events spanned from sit-ins to dumping wasted and polluted dragon's blood on a ministry official. For weeks his mind would be torn between lab reports and journals and protest plans, and he wasn't ashamed to say that he'd been arrested more than once for disturbing the peace; however, a turn of the tides began as Sam continued to work.
Though the Wizards for the Ethical Treatment of Dragons (WETD) never received direct funding, Sam was surprised when his professor's research program was given a large donation from a particular woman. As it turned out, Sam heard about and met Aurora Kensington through his mentor. Her seemingly large interest in the scaly creatures rivaled his own, and he was stunned to hear that it was her money that bailed him out of jail on more than one occasion. She proved to be a distant benefactor whom Sam greatly admired for all of her determination and mystique. Given his reputation at the ministry, the name Sampson Carmichael was already a well known name amongst government officials and The Daily Prophet. Subsequently, when the time came to answer the masses' demands for a change in the treatment and care for dragons, they could only think of one person to be the head of the new DRC program. In a matter of mere moments, Sam's life seemed to go from night to day. Where he was once an enemy to the government he was now a valued voice and face. He appeased the masses and strengthened the minister's political solidarity with the public. Never failing to forget his family or those who helped him along the way, Sam has since dedicated his life to living up to their devotion and trust. He could only repay them by making sure the Dragon Rehabilitation and Conservation program was the most successful it could be.
Sexual Preference: Ladies
Turn-On's: Their laughter, initiative, compassion, British accents, wit, the way they move, their social behavior.... "Really everything. What's not to love? Women are fascinating creatures. Confusing to no end, but fascinating nonetheless."
Turn-Off's: Thinking animals don't have souls, users, plastic "parts," bigotry against muggles/half-blood/muggleborns
Friends: Practically everyone in his department and a couple other people around the Ministry offices. Aurora Kensington's helped him out of more than a couple tight spots in his past. He also has highly valued friends and connections in various pinpoints around the globe, tucked away in little villages or universities, from all of his expeditions.
Flings/Past Relationships: He had a girl once back in the States around the time he graduated, but they split over him taking up his permanent job with the Ministry in Britain. He doesn't blame her. It was difficult for him to leave the U.S. on a more permanent basis and never wanted to force her to make the same decision. The rest is just puppy love.
Well-known Facts: "Have I told you I love dragons?"
Little-known Facts: He didn't really talk until he was six when his kindergarten teacher got him to talk about animals. Before then, the only person to ever really hear his voice was his mother and uncle, who gave him his first puppy. His mother worried, but all his father ever said about it looking back is, "Well would you look at this place? Two girls and four other men to compete with. It's a miracle any of us could get a word in edgewise!"
